Obol pays musicians per listen in USDC on Arc. A pay-per-play path gates tracks behind an HTTP 402 flow implemented in src/lib/x402.ts and the /api/x402 routes, settling a nanopayment to the artist as the track unlocks. For self-hosted libraries, an autonomous agent under src/lib/agent (runner.ts, subsonic.ts, musicbrainz.ts, circle.ts) watches a Subsonic/Navidrome server, resolves ambiguous artists with an LLM via llm.ts, and settles per-listen payments through Circle wallets. Earnings for unclaimed artists accrue in escrow, modeled in prisma/schema.prisma, until the artist claims a wallet. The Next.js app streams agent activity live over Server-Sent Events and publishes a verifiable per-artist payment ledger.
