Assay pays sources when an AI answer actually uses them. Each answer is judged by an attribution verifier in lib/verifier.ts, driven by Gemini via lib/gemini.ts, which decides which registered sources grounded the answer and assigns contribution weights; per-citation USDC tolls then settle to each source's Circle Gateway balance on Arc through app/api/ground and lib/arc.ts. A research agent in lib/agent.ts runs a decide-act-observe-reflect loop against a budget, forming follow-up questions and declining to pay weakly grounded sources. The /trust page adds reputation bonds via lib/bonds.ts, where a broker stakes USDC on a source's grounding quality and is rewarded or slashed on-chain by the same verifier. Sources claim wallets, track earnings at app/s/[wallet], and withdraw through app/api/withdraw, with every settlement recorded in the searchable ledger in lib/ledger.ts.
